Biochar (also called bio-coal) is a high-carbon material produced by thermochemically processing biomass (agricultural production waste) under limited oxygen conditions. Unlike fossil coal, biochar is a renewable feedstock with a zero or negative carbon footprint. On the key metrics — calorific value and purity of composition — Pamecarbon biochar doesn't just compare with anthracite and coke, it outperforms them: up to 95% fixed carbon, minimal moisture, ash and volatile matter, while coal contains a significantly higher share of these impurities.
Yes. For the metallurgical industry this product is relatively new, and no single established terminology has formed yet — in inquiries and correspondence, clients call it biochar, biocoal, biocarbon, or bio-coal, sometimes using different names within the same exchange. Technically, all these terms refer to the same material — calcinated biocarbon. Pamecarbon works with this product regardless of which name is used in your inquiry.
Exclusively from agricultural production waste. We don't use wood and we don't cut down forests — instead, we process plant residues that would otherwise decompose and release CO₂ into the atmosphere. This is why Pamecarbon's production has a negative carbon balance (carbon negative).
The fixed carbon content of our products varies by grade: 85–95% for calcinated biochar, and from 80% for zero-sulphur, zero-phosphorus biochar. The exact technical specifications of each grade are provided as a certificate of quality (CoA). We're ready to adapt the parameters to your specific technological requirements.
The product is available in particle sizes from 0–3 mm to 25–50 mm. Packaging options: big bags (500–1000 kg), 25 kg bags, or bulk shipments. Non-standard particle sizes and special packaging are arranged individually. The minimum volume for a first shipment is 1 container (20 tonnes).
In steel production, biochar replaces anthracite and coke as a carbon reducing agent and fuel. Because biomass absorbs CO₂ as it grows, burning biochar is considered carbon-neutral under European GHG Accounting standards. According to independent research, replacing fossil coal with biochar reduces specific CO₂ emissions per tonne of steel by 70–90%. This directly lowers the burden of the CBAM mechanism for steel exporters to the EU.
Every batch comes with a quality certificate (Certificate of Analysis) showing the results of independent laboratory analysis: fixed carbon, volatile matter, ash, moisture, sulphur, phosphorus, calorific value. On request, we provide documents on the origin of the feedstock (agricultural production waste) and an MSDS. Products for agricultural applications are available with an EBC (European Biochar Certificate) certificate.
The Pamecarbon plant's production capacity allows for regular shipments ranging from 1 to several hundred tonnes per month. For large industrial customers, long-term supply contracts with a fixed volume and price can be arranged. To assess availability for the volume and timeline you need, get in touch with us.
